The Good Wife – “Bitcoin for Dummies” Promo

Jason Biggs (apple fucker from American Pie) plays a carefree lawyer representing the mysterious creator of bitcoin. In this episode of The Good Wife, the main characters have to defend him from the US government. More details.

The hole deepens. Before, I had the impression that they were going to show bitcoin in a good light. Looking at the video now, it is hard to be sure. The part where he throws down dollar bills and shady phone-calls seed some doubt.

But it is unlikely that the leading characters will lose their court case- and they are on the side of bitcoin!

Good or bad?

The show airs on 15th January. A well known star and network promos means this is a key episode they are putting money behind.

Doesn’t really matters if its good or bad. ATM any publicity is good publicity.

I don’t think they are interested in Bitcoin – it’s just a ‘The Social Network’ story alternative – the lawyer is Sean Parker (Napster), Satoshi is Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook geek).
But I agree – the Good Wife always wins these cases.
It seems the show is about geeks releasing something powerful into the world without quite recognizing the consequences – which I think pretty much describes bitcoin. It’s all good.

      “without quite recognizing the consequences”

That’s what they said about the printing press, the Internet.

Financial fraud is the release by finance geeks like Bernanke.
      Bitcoin is the consequence.

I’ve been apprehensive about this episode since I heard about it. Publicity, getting the word out? That’s good. But for a lot of people this will be their first impression, and if that first impression is a bad impression, it may take years for the resulting misconceptions to get sorted out.

Sounds like rather than outright demonization they are going to try to make people unsure, which could be just as bad.

They are playing it for laughs – the lawyer in the clip clearly doesn’t give a shit and is the hero. The feds however are clearly shown to be a bunch of out of touch cronies trying to prevent the end of their cozy world. This story is a standard post internet trope.

The U.S. is mostly a nation of simpletons who, like the rest of my family, get their moral, ethical, and “legal” education from the vast wasteland of cop, doctor, lawyer and contest TV shows.

They self inflict this brainwashing like an intellectually challenged kid banging their head against a wall…loving every minute of it and begging for more; completely oblivious to the risks of profound damage inherent in such behavior.

These shows do almost as much damage as Congress. The cop/lawyer shows do not separate legality from morality and mysteriously paint these demons of the State as generally good or necessary.

Instead of viewers thinking for themselves, the doctor shows are often rife with politically tainted medical ethics and morality.

The contestant shows are outright deceptions since they are usually labeled as “reality TV”, darkly painting the real world as some sort of psychopathic game where people are mere pawns — a means to an end.

Well said. Switch off the TV. Go outside. Educate yourself online. Build things.
